Gabriel Moraga
Gabriel Moraga (died 1823) was a Spanish army officer in the Viceroyalty of New Spain, an Alta California explorer, and son of pioneer José Joaquín Moraga.
de Anza expeditions
Moraga was a member of both 1770s expeditions of Juan Bautista de Anza to upper Las Californias, the first for overland route exploration and the second for settlement.
Central Valley
Gabriel Moraga was one of the first Europeans to see and explore the Central Valley of California (1806–1808). He led expeditions of soldiers to do the first Spanish explorations of the valley.
Moraga became the source of many place names in the region, that derive from names he gave the rivers.
